Better Bodies Programme

  • Fun activities to learn about healthy eating
  • Group support from others your own age
  • 1:1 mentoring from someone who has been obese and lost weight

  • The opportunity to shape a new programme to help others
  • Ways to help you gain in confidence and self esteem

The Better Bodies programme works with young women aged 16-18 years old who are either overweight or obese. The programme is designed to offer intense support and mentoring to the young people and build resilience whilst they undertake a weight loss and exercise programme. There are three elements to the activities:

 

Support - This will be offered in a group session where young people can make friends and support each other on their journeys. The sessions will consist of fun, interactive activities and group work around a programme including:

 

. Food groups, basic nutrition and healthy eating

. Body image and Self-esteem

. The importance of exercise

. Dreams and goals

. Forming good relationships

. An activity team day

 

Mentoring - This will be on a 1:1 basis with a qualified youth worker who has personal experience of obesity and weight loss and has a passion for helping young people with this issue.

 

Fitness training - Young people will have access to personal fitness training sessions with a qualified personal trainer who will use a combination of 1:1 work and group work.

How long are the courses?

 

The pilot course is for 12 weeks but Youth Central recognises the need for longer term support so we are hoping, once a model has been established, to have a rolling programme.

 

Better Bodies is currently running in Maidstone.
